Allergy Testing

Allergy testing for environmental allergy involves both scratch testing and of allergens.  These simple and effective tests are done on the same day as your initial consultation and results are available within 15 minutes.  Testing is performed in 2 stages starting with prick testing using a slightly sharp plastic instrument to lightly scratch the skin surface followed, if necessary, by small injections barely under the surface of the skin.  Detailed information about skin testing is available here.  

 

Drug challenges/desensitization

Drug allergy can be confusing for your doctor and for you.  We seek to simplify matters by focusing on the chief suspect medications and performing challenges as appropriate.  Sometimes, in office desensitization can be accomplished. 

 

Food Challenge

Skin testing and challenge with foods is helpful to eliminate foods suspected of causing allergic reactions. 

 

Immunotherapy (Allergy Shots)

Allergy shots are covered by most insurance plans.  If we participate with your insurer, we will accept your insurance as payment in full (you are still responsible for copayments and deductibles).  Read this for a discussion of this form of treatment.  

 

Nasal Endoscopy

Evaluation of your nasal anatomy helps us to help you.  By directing visualizing your sinuses, we can evaluate you for nasal polyps, sinus infection, deviated nasal septum or the insidious consequences of acid reflux.  

 

Pulmonary Function Testing

The presence or severity of asthma is assessed with specialized lung function tests in the office.
