Teaching Cases: Sinus Anatomy: Accessory Maxillary Ostia
Accessory Maxillary Ostia occur in about 5% in the normal healthy population, this incidence increases to 25% in patients of chronic inflammatory conditions of nose and sinuses. (Stammberger and Kennedy, 1995). The natural ostium of the maxillary sinus can almost never be visualized directly from the middle meatus, it can only be seen after the uncinate process has been removed.
